SS7 Attack Scenarios
INT-CM020 SS7 Firewall System can protect from the following attacks
Hacking Subscriber Information and Tracking Location: an attacker can hack certain subscribers’ information (IMSI’s or MSISDN’s) and
use them locate and track to Cell ID level using standard SRI, ATI or PSI messages. (GSMA Category 1 and 2 vulnerabilities)
Illegal Calls/SMS Interception: by changing subscriber’s profiles within the VLR, attackers may redirect calls/SMS to their own equipment and record
Denial of Service: using ISD messages, an attacker may block mobile services for one or more subscribers, and insome cases, and through SS7 flooding, might bring down the entire network! (GSMA Category 2 and 3 vulnerabilities)
Fraud Generation: through manipulating the subscription profile of prepaid lines on the VLR, attackers may allow such lines of making premium calls without being charged, causing a significant loss to the operator. (GSMA Category 2 vulnerabilities)
